The sailor returns home after months at sea, to his lover's embrace, waltzing to their favourite music . . . I imagined this took place circa 1830s. It is my ode to two of my favourite composers of that era- Chopin & Mendelssohn. Incidentally, I have since discovered that they both met and became life long friends. They were also both influenced by Bach. I find this interesting, as I had set out to write this piece, wanting to evoke Chopin's Waltzes & Nocturnes, yet, the end of the piece sounds decidedly like something Bach might compose.
